Studying abroad could bring anxiousness to many people, especially because it’s incredibly frightening to start fresh on your own in an unknown country. However, a break from reality and facing new challenges could answer many people’s questions about the type of person they are and really open up new doors for them as well. Choosing this temporary lifestyle could really be one of the most incredible, interesting, and fulfilling experiences a high school student could expose themselves to.

Studying abroad gives students the opportunity to explore the world on their own terms. They are able to choose their own destination, the program, and the experiences they get from it. One of the main reasons why most people decide to study abroad is to see the world in a new perspective.

According to student Valerie Jara, “Here in the US, we have a ton of unique cultures, but I have a vague understanding of them. If I were to travel abroad I feel that I could gain a new perspective.”

By leaving the country, people take in the beauty and culture of a new land and will find incredible new foods, customs, traditions, and social atmospheres. In addition to studying in a particular host nation, there is a possibility for people to be able to see nearby cities, states, and countries as well.

This program also allows students to challenge themselves both professionally and personally. Students are able to challenge themselves professionally through studying abroad because they acquire insights through many real life situations and could also lead them into a new career path.

“It definitely looks good on applications. Depending on where you go it could be eye opening in many different ways and could alter perspective,” said student Shelby McDonald.

This program could challenge someone in a personal way by broadening the experiences a person is exposed to. Student Ruth Felix adds, “I feel that studying abroad could really benefit someone because you kind of give yourself a break from reality at home and a break from your everyday routine.”

The opportunity to study abroad may turn out to be a once in a lifetime chance. It allows students to both study and learn about new cultures, and leaves a lasting impression on students for years to come.
